Eighteen

Once upon a time, I turned eighteen

Then all I wanted to have a birthday picnic in a magical park

Then Liz and I decided to drive really far away from where we were supposed to go and use up most of her gas and meet nice, homeless people in Sperry.

Then we almost cried because we kept driving on one-way streets and couldn't find our way back, so we turned around and followed our bread crumbs all the way back to the park.

Then it was dark when we got there, but it was alright because all our friends were there waiting.

They were happy to see us.

And what fun we had at last.

And how we will take a really long time to grow up.

In approximately 18 minutes I will be 18 years old

There is nothing about turning 18 that sounds appealing. That means I have to start going to jail for stuff I regularly do. And paying bills and wearing black dress pants and being bored. But tomorrow also means cupcakes. And sidewalk chalk in the park and picnics and friends.

And balloons.
